Nina needs to catch a flight departing from the airport at 6:30 pm. Her office meeting ends at 5:30 pm, and it takes her 15 minutes to drive from the office to the airport parking lot. From the parking lot, it takes another 10 minutes to walk to the security checkpoint with just her hand luggage. After passing security, she needs another 5 minutes to reach her gate.
How much time can Nina spend at the security checkpoint and still catch her flight on time, given the gate normally closes 15 minutes before departure time?

After leaving her office at 5:30 pm, Nina should reach the airport parking lot at 5:45 pm and the security checkpoint at 5:55 pm. If the gate closes at 6:15 pm (15 minutes before departure time), Nina must aim to reach there by 6:14 pm at the latest. That means she should be done with security screening by 6:09 pm, allowing for the 5-minute walk from the checkpoint to the gate. Nina can spend a maximum of 14 minutes at the security checkpoint and still catch her flight on time. |
