Minute Mystery: Guarding the Galleries

Bite-sized brain teaser to solve in a minute or less.

Guarding the Galleries

Benny, the vigilant guardian of Creek Mile Heritage Museum, constantly makes rounds through the galleries during his shift. With meticulous attention, he navigates through each section, spending 9 minutes in the main gallery, and 6, 4, 9, and 12 minutes respectively in the remaining exhibits before looping back to the main gallery.

Amidst his 8-hour shift, punctuated by two 30-minute breaks, how many complete rounds can Benny make around the gallery in one day?

Solution

Time it takes to complete one full round: 9 + 6 + 4 + 9 + 12 = 40 minutes

Total break time: 30 + 30 = 60 minutes

Benny makes rounds for the remaining 7 hours = 7 x 60 = 420 minutes

420 / 40 = 10.5

Benny makes 10 full rounds around the gallery in one day.
