Minute Mystery: Project Progress

Bite-sized brain teaser to solve in a minute or less.

Project Progress

Sarah is assigned a project at 9:00 am with a deadline set for 4:00 pm the same day. She starts working on the project right away. However, at noon, she receives an urgent call that requires her immediate attention for 45 minutes. After handling the call, Sarah takes a 20-minute break to clear her mind.

How much time does Sarah have left to finish the project before the deadline?

Solution

The remaining time Sarah has to finish the project can be calculated by subtracting the time she has already spent from the total time available before the deadline.

Total time available before the deadline: 4:00 pm - 9:00 am = 7 hours

Time spent on the project: 3 hours (9:00 am to 12:00 pm) + 45 minutes (urgent call) + 20 minutes (break) = 3 hours 65 minutes = 4 hours 5 minutes

Time remaining: 7 hours - 4 hours 5 minutes = 2 hours 55 minutes

Sarah has 2 hours and 55 minutes left to finish the project before the deadline.
