Minute Mystery: The Art Exhibit Puzzle

Bite-sized brain teaser to solve in a minute or less.

The Art Exhibit Puzzle

Diana is curating an art exhibit and needs to display five different paintings in a single row. Each painting belongs to a different artist, and each artist specializes in a distinct theme. Here are the clues to help you organize the paintings:

  1. The landscape painting is immediately to the right of the portrait painting.
  2. The abstract painting is either the first or last in the row.
  3. The still life painting is exactly in the middle.
  4. The seascape painting is displayed directly to the right of the abstract painting.

Can you determine the correct order of the five paintings from left to right based on the clues?

Solution

  • Based on Clue 3, the still life painting is exactly in the middle, so it should be in Position 3.
  • Based on Clue 4, the seascape painting is displayed directly to the right of the abstract painting, which according to Clue 2, either the first or last in the row. The seascape painting cannot be on its right if the abstract painting is last. So, the abstract painting should be in Position 1 and the seascape painting in Position 2.
  • Now, we are left with the landscape and portrait paintings for Positions 4 and 5. Given the landscape painting is immediately to the right of the portrait painting (Clue 1), the portrait painting must be in Position 4 and the landscape painting in Position 5.

Here is the correct order of the five paintings from left to right:

  1. Abstract
  2. Seascape
  3. Still life
  4. Portrait
  5. Landscape
