Bite-sized brain teaser to solve in a minute or less.

The Candy Box
You have three boxes labeled incorrectly:
- "Chocolates"
- "Gummies"
- "Chocolates and Gummies"
One box contains only chocolates, one box contains only gummies, and one contains a mix of both. You are allowed to pick only one candy at random from any one box.
How can you determine the correct labels for all three boxes with just one pick?
Solution
| Since all boxes are labeled incorrectly, the box labeled "Chocolates and Gummies" cannot contain a mix. It must contain either only chocolates or only gummies.
Pick one candy from the "Chocolates and Gummies" box. If the candy is a chocolate, the box labeled "Chocolates and Gummies" contains only chocolates. As a result, the gummies have to be in the box labeled "Chocolates" and the mix has to be in the box labeled "Gummies." If the candy is a gummy, the box labeled "Chocolates and Gummies" contains only gummies. As a result, the chocolates have to be in the box labeled "Gummies" and the mix has to be in the box labeled "Chocolates." |
