Minute Mystery: The Family Ages

Bite-sized brain teaser to solve in a minute or less.

The Family Ages

Category: Logical Deduction

A father is 30 years older than his son.
In 5 years, he will be twice his son’s age.

How old is the son now?

Solution

Son's age now = x

Father's age now = x + 30

In 5 years:

x + 30 + 5 = 2(x + 5)

x + 35 = 2x + 10

25 = x

The son is 25 now.
