How many apples, oranges, and pears are in the basket?
Solution
Let:
From the clues:
The total number of fruits is 30, so: o + a + p = 30
Substitute the expressions for a and p: o + 2o + (2o−5) = 30 5o − 5 = 30 50 = 35 o = 7
Find the numbers of apples and pears
Total fruits = 7 + 14 + 9 = 30
There are 14 apples, 7 oranges, and 9 pears in the fruit basket. |
