Minute Mystery: The Hotel Occupancy

Bite-sized brain teaser to solve in a minute or less.

The Hotel Occupancy

Category: Algebra, Quick Logic

A hotel is 50% full with some number of rooms occupied. After 100 additional rooms have been checked-in to, it’s 75% full. How many rooms does the hotel have?

Solution

R = total number of rooms

Initially 0.5 R occupied

After 100 more check-ins = 0.75 R occupied

0.5 R + 100 = 0.75 R

100 = 0.25 R

R = 400 rooms

The hotel has 400 rooms
