Find the smallest two-digit number that, when its digits are reversed, becomes exactly 9 greater than the original number.
Solution
Let the original number be 10a + b Reversing its digits gives 10b + a The condition is: 10b + a – 10a – b = 9 9b - 9a = 9 9 (b – a) = 9 b – a = 1. The answer should be 12, since 1 and 2 differ by 1, and 21 – 12 = 9
