Minute Mystery: The Slow Clock

Bite-sized brain teaser to solve in a minute or less.

The Slow Clock

Category: Logic, Time Puzzle

A wall clock loses 2 minutes every hour. At exactly noon today, it shows the correct time. After how many days (and at what time) will it next show the correct time again?

Solution

The clock loses 2 minutes per hour, so in 24 hours, it loses 48 minutes.

In order for the clock to show the correct time again, it needs to fall behind by 12 hours.

  • 12 hours = 720 minutes
  • 720 ÷ 2 = 360 hours, which is 15 days

Answer: After 15 days, at noon, the clock will again coincide with the true time.
