Clue:

Examine this excerpt from a newspaper article dated 8 years ago to unravel the identity of Carl Capital and comprehend the motives behind the demands being made.

Bringing an end to a four-month-long trial, Creek Mile County court has sentenced Carl Capital to life imprisonment.

On November 22, 1976, Carl and his wife Cammie walked in to First Fortune’s Oddtown branch carrying guns and wearing face coverings with the intention of robbing the bank. A teller was able to trip the alarm, causing the police to arrive at the scene. The Capitals started firing in a state of panic, causing injury to two police officers and a bank employee. As a result of return fire, Cammie was killed on the spot and Carl was arrested.

Cammie was laid to rest in a quiet ceremony not long after the incident, and Carl’s case had been on trial for nearly four months. He has claimed that he and his wife were driven to this point when the bank wrongfully terminated his employment 8 months ago under false charges and that the bank’s executives insured Carl wasn’t able to find employment elsewhere. “Cammie and I never intended on hurting anyone and I’m truly sorry for what happened. Cammie lost her temper when she saw the police arrive the scene and she didn’t want the bank’s executives getting away this time. I already lost my wife and willingly surrendered when she was shot. I urge the court to see that as my punishment and shorten my sentence, so I can go back home to my son. He doesn’t have anybody else.”

The court, however, sentenced Carl for life for attempted armed robbery and the use of firearms. “Three innocent people were injured and the bank could have potentially suffered a huge loss,” said Deputy Sheriff Fairplay, the arresting officer, in a statement following the sentencing. “Justice has been served.”

The Capitals’ 11-year-old son (name undisclosed), who had been in school at the time of the attempted robbery, is currently under child protection to be put under foster care.
