February 2024

Find a missing archaeologist in quest of an ancient chamber.

Solve mildly challenging puzzles to unlock the mystery.

Franny, the assistant researcher of the brilliant yet slightly eccentric archeologist Dr. Discovery, has been stationed at the ruins of the ancient city of Oddrona for the past two years. Their mission: to uncover a hidden chamber rumored to hold ancient texts unveiling secrets lost to time. Upon returning from a weekend trip to a nearby town, Franny discovers her boss's office in disarray, accompanied by a hurried note on her desk that reads, “Find me if I’m not back by Sunday.” With Monday morning already upon her, Franny fears her boss may be lost, possibly without sustenance. In a state of panic, Franny initiates a search for clues. Can you assist Franny in scrutinizing the clues and guide her in locating Dr. Discovery?

Part Two

This is Part Two of a three-part series. You may choose to first solve Part One. Otherwise, you may just start with this puzzle. Be sure to check out Part Three to unlock the complete mystery with the final puzzle.

Please note: The answer to Part One may have been been shared below.

Clue:

Tracing Dr. Discovery's clues, Franny arrives at the Lone Tower of Oddrona and tracks the tower's shadow at 2:00 pm (the second hour after midday, as shared in a previous clue). The point of the tower's shadow aligns with a lone brick on the cobblestone path. Pressing the brick reveals a small opening in the ground a few feet away. Intrigued, Franny decides to explore further.

Entering a well-lit hall adorned with fire torches, Franny discovers a unique ground composed of interconnected pathways linking each of the four walls. Each wall features a distinct mural:

  • At the point of entry, the wall behind her showcases a pot soaring through the sky.
  • The right wall portrays a plant sitting on a flame.
  • The front wall displays a bird perched over a body of water.
  • The left wall exhibits a fish at rest on the ground.

Despite traversing the pathways between walls, Franny encounters no doorways or additional clues.

Is there a specific route Franny must follow? If so, could you assist her in unraveling the mystery?

Hint

Do the depicted items align with the setting in each mural, or would each item be more fitting in a setting depicted in a different mural?

Solution

A more accurate depiction in each mural should be:

Pot sitting on a flame

Plant in the ground

Fish in a body of water

Bird soaring through the sky

Commencing from Franny's entrance point, she should walk:

  1. From the pot (in the sky) to the flame
  2. From the plant (on the flame) to the ground
  3. From the fish (on the ground) to the body of water
  4. From the bird (on the body of water) to the sky

This is the correct path for Franny to advance further.
